Hi guys. Welcome back to the Monthly Misc. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Hardeep, a banker working a 9-5, a part-time YouTuber and blogger, and husband and father of two.
π· Life Update
I think I told youth I had COVID at the end of last year? Well it looks like I have a case of long covid, because I'm still getting breathless and lack energy often.
I spoke to the doctor and, after a quick assessment, was referred to a new long covid clinic that has been set up nearby. I've got a call with a doctor this week - let's see what happens!
As someone who is fit, healthy, and a regular gym goer, I'm surprised at how much I've been impacted by the virus. I know others who have had it but with mild symptoms. I consider them lucky. I attempted a walk on Sunday gone with the weather being nice, but spent the rest of the day recovering. I'm not giving up though. I might not be able to go for a jog yet but I'll be attempting walks daily.
π§ Productivity And The Fine Line Between Motivation And Discipline
Not only did Covid take it out of me physically, but mentally too. I struggled concentrating with work, and I had no energy left in the day to focus on my personal projects such as YouTube and Skillshare.
As well as the lack of energy, I lacked motivation, and that was the bigger issue. I'd fallen out of routine, and trying to get back into a habit of writing and creating was a struggle.
I had a moment of reflection and challenged myself by setting a new deadline for my next YouTube video (it's published, and you can find it here), and I set a deadline for a new Skillshare class (coming soon!). I then revisited my Notion project page, created new tasks in Things 3 related to the two projects, and got to work. It's worked. I'll be recording the Skillshare class over the next two days, and spend the rest of the week editing with the hope of it going live by the weekendπ€πΌ.
πΉ On Analysing View Statistics
As mentioned, I released my latest YouTube video last week. And it's not doing good. In hindsight, I'm not surprised. The title is...meh. And it's not a 'hot topic' so it won't get organic growth via search. But my first YouTube video on TickTick did take off, at least in terms of a first video. Naturally you compare your new video stats to the last one. And that's where I'm going wrong.
You see, I'm early into my YouTube journey, and it will take many videos, many good ones, and many crap ones before I start to build an audience of my own. But the most important thing is to just do it at this point in the journey. There's a saying about not focusing on the end goal, but focusing on doing the process consistently - this will build discipline and get you to the end goal in time. I have to remember that I won't become an overnight YouTube celebrity from a couple of videos. But yeah, go watch my YouTube videos and subscribe π .
